First of all, remember that the news media is big business ... I mean BIG! And that means it reports that material which - at the end of the day - gives them larger audiences, which translates into profits.

Now, some TV stations have tried the "good news" formats. And they flopped. Miserably. News Directors will tell you, and generally rightly so, they only give people what they want to watch.

"Fuzz and Was" journalism ( Police and Dead People) is a proven ratings builder. It's unfortunate. But true.

Not really. What is reported is what happens. If the media did not report the bad news, it would still be there, people just wouldn't be as aware of it. It would be nice to hear about someone going beyond their normal call to show there are still good people in the world.

They already do that on the local 6:00 news. Murders at 11:00. But more people watch national and world news.

If I had it my way I would make them report good news at least once a week, instead of looking for the easy story on the mangled train, y not spotlight all the GREAT charity work being done...

the more I think about it the more cynical I get....

are there really people out there who do help people???

Definitely. The constant reporting of bad news is depressing and affects the mental attitude of everyone in a negative way.

i think so. of course we need to know the bad, but the good is just as important and a lot more inspiring.
