the media only cares about ratings. so if somethind bad happens, it means they will have higher ratings as more people tune in to find out what happens. If they can get some good reporters or the inside story, or be the first to report on a story, this further increases their ability to attract viewers. this makes more money for the network and they are also able to charge more for advertisers to run commercials on their channel

Bad news sells more papers and gets more viewers than good news although I would prefer to watch a good news story where someone receives the much waited heart lung transplant or the one where the 18 pandas needed names.

Oh no! I agree! They should have covered up
today's event in Virginia? They should have done
something different. An interview of Imus. How
"many" Anna Nicole and Madonna have dumped.
They should show Merrie Melodies reruns on
Cartoon network. Darnit, they are all in syndication.
Have been since the 1960's......

Blame yourself and everyone else (me included) who create the ratings and slow down for the crash on the side of the road!

We're all watching, aren't we? It's a business, isn't it? So in a way, we the people are driving it. We don't pay much attention when it's good news, now do we?

Because bad news sells. It proves to others that "hey, there's somebody out there worse off than me"

Nothing to do with the media really. They are simply catering for the masses who obviously want it.
