Question:
Hannah Smith Ask.fm Suicide ?
2013-08-11 12:53:57 UTC
I think that this story is very tragic but I have quite a few questions

I personally dislike ask fm because of how It can affect people's lives

The news said that ask fm tracked down the girls haters and it seemed that it all lead to herself . This may not be true but if it is ...

Then maybe Hannah smith sent hate to herself on ask fm , and commited suicide to prove a point as to what ask fm hate can do to a person . Maybe it was a protest .

I'm just thinking about it - I personally believe ask fm is a stupid site and if you really want to know something about someone - just ask them in person

I was wondering what you guys thought about the Hannah Smith story and your attitudes towards ask fm - etc

Thanks -jazz xx

I don't mean to sound insensitive, but if the bullying was getting to a point where you would even consider taking your own life (which of course it shouldn't, it shouldn't have happened at all), would you not have stopped looking on ask.fm?

Maybe its not as simple as that I understand as you cannot just forget what you have read, but personally I would have stopped reading more and more.

As for her sending them herself, I don't know what to think, was something else going on and ask.fm was her cover up? who knows?

It wouldn't surprise me if Hannah Smith really did send those abusive messages to herself and then consequently committed suicide. Girls can be really odd like that.

I think ask.fm is definitely a dodgy website for several reasons. Firstly as you said, it does allow people to bully and abuse other online users. The fact that you do not need an account to ask questions and therefore can remain anonymous doesn't help either. It just fuels the abuse as anonymous users go into a process called de-individuation.

Secondly, its really addictive. I only found out about ask.fm a few days ago from reading about Hannah Smith. I haven't got an account on ask.fm but I have already asked a load of people questions anonymously. I would never bully or abuse someone on ask.fm. Instead I ask people questions that I've always wanted to know about but would be too embarrassed to ask in person or would not normally be socially acceptable. Although I don't ask any sexual questions, particularly as the majority of users are under the age of 18.

I personally think that what these bullies did was despicable hiding behind a computer screen to bully someone into suicide.

My 17 year old cousin is out of the closet shall we say and I have seen loads of abuse he gets from people on the site saying how they hate gay people and that he should be put down and why he should stop being gay.

And like Hannah Smith, he has been told to go away and commit suicide by these bullies. He is strong minded enough to ignore all of this but it proved too much for someone else and I think ask.fm should be shut down immediately.

I believe that Hannah Smith was bullied at school and may have depression. She probably felt worthless and useless so she made a lot of accounts to put herself down. Maybe she made those accounts and bullied herself only to hide what she has going though.

I doubt that she was looking for attention. If she was, she wouldn't have committed suicide.

Ask Fm seems like a dangerous site. I don't even use it but a few of my friends use it.

R.I.P Hannah Smith

She was bullied just like the other four before Hannah took their own lives.

Ask.FM say they were not aware of any bulling going on.

Absolute rubbish the more kids they have the more money they take in.

It's like Amanda Todd - cyber bulling.

The PM has now stepped in - what could be done is once you start to be bullied close down straight away.

I've never used ask.fm so cannot comment there, but i will say that parents should be aware of what their children do online. If you look at yahoo answers, you'll notice there are times when spammers continually post 'questions' advertising girls or shoes etc. Other yahoo users report them, their questions are deleted, and they post more, even creating more accounts. If it's hard for yahoo and all it's users to keep them away, how hard must it be for ask.fm?

Personally, i would like to see users and parents taking more responsibility for what they do online, because the last thing i would want to see is a regulated internet, the internet is possibly the only 'free' medium we have.

ps: If she lent the PC to someone it would have a different ip address.

All websites collect statistics on users and it's easy enough to know a users ip address, this is standard, simple data collection.

I disagree wit it being a protest. She was bullied without ask.fm before, her dad even said so himself, so she got ask.fm, someone sent her hate, and she carried it on. I know many people who sent questions to themselves to get hate for the attention. She got bullied, but a few people on there would have pushed her over the edge, and she probably upset herself even more when she sent things to herself..

i believe that it was herself that was sending herself hate cause of what they said about the IP address all the hate came from her own computer. I think she did it for attention, but i dont like ask.fm at all its probably the worst thing on the internet atm

depends on if she really did just send herself hate. if she actually did, it's obvious that she wanted the attention. if ask.fm lied about her sending herself hate messages, it comes to cyber bullying and actual people telling her to kill herself. i'm not sure if she was actually bullied outside of the internet, but if she were i can see why she would kill herself since those bullies might have been anon telling her to kill herself. if it were random, complete strangers on the internet that came to stumble upon her profile, she shouldn't have taken it seriously and should've just moved on by ignoring them but nope, she chose to be an idiot to kill herself over people she have never and most likely will never meet again in her lifetime.

If you've ever wanted to know who asked you anonymous questions on ask.fm, you can find out by using this ask.fm anonymous finder. http://is.gd/sP4t2d

It reveals the username of the anonymous on ask.fm!

I do not believe she sent the messages to herself and then took her own life , it is far too simplistic to be true

Maybe they were sent from her Computer , was it lent out , did a fiend or a relative use it ,

Good excuse ASK FM but i do not buy it
